Principal’s Message

Raisbeck Aviation High School bubbled over with Phoenix pride last Thursday night. Over 150 RAHS student ambassadors stayed late to support our first Information Night—thank you students!  Many visitors shared with me how impressed they were with you, our teachers, and support staff. I am very proud of everyone. Based on the number of brochures distributed to each prospective family, the RAHS family helped over 650 visitors become better acquainted with our program.
Do you know of a prospective student who may be interested in RAHS?  Invite them to our final Information Night on December 4.  If you know of a student or family who cannot attend, please forward the following link that features our new promotional video.  It is available for the next two weeks at https://app.box.com/s/1kuwcf7cfa8ree950re7.  With striking aerial photography of our school, the video wonderfully captures the heartbeat of our school climate and student culture. The PTSA Board Members deserve my deep gratitude for their support of the promotional video project.
This coming Wednesday and Thursday, an external team from AdvancED, a certified accreditation provider, will be on site to conduct a comprehensive review and evaluation of RAHS.  Public schools are required to undergo accreditation every five years.  I consider the review another opportunity to share our program and learn how we can improve our practices. Specifically, AdvancED requires that educational institutions must:

· Meet the AdvancED Standards and accreditation policies.

· Engage in continuous improvement.

Ms. Nurzhanov earns a giant gold star for her efforts to lead the accreditation intake process and our teachers deserve praise for their collaborative work to meet every deadline. Thank you staff!  We expect to receive the executive summary from AdvancED’s by mid-December.  I’ll share the highlights in a subsequent NOTAM and post the summary to our website as soon as it becomes available.  I believe the external review team will be amazed by our unrivaled programs, stellar achievements, and Phoenix spirit.

Thank you Drivers!  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.  Last week, we noted a significant reduction in the number of U-Turns in front of the school.

U-Turns in front of the school—I’ve observed and learned about a number of close calls involving cars making U-turns in front of the school.  As a courtesy to our student drivers and other parents, please follow the directional signs in the parking area. The safest place to turn around is to follow the directional arrows at the west end of the building.  Drivers, please avoid making a U-turn in between the speed bumps.  Thank you for your cooperation to keep everyone safe.

A Round of Applause—acknowledging those who make RAHS a better place.

Sydney Gardner, Deanta Kelly, Maryam Shafa, Timothy Wang, and Grace Zoppi,—they are a very accomplished stringed quintet and have performed for the Pathfinder Gala, the PTSA Auction, and the Joe Sutter Dinner.  Superb performances!

Ms. Wombold and Mr. and Mrs. Joshi for chaperoning the Joe Sutter Dinner.

All 150 students who stayed late for Information Night!

Harrison Jerome, Isabella Torres, Deborah Ferede, Quinn Edgington, Xhelan Sylve, Isha Singh, Kory Watson, Melissa Will, Carlos Navarro, and Emilio Anselmo—our student Information Night panelists.

Honored to serve as your Principal—Bruce Kelly

There are other ways you can support RAHS – see the link here Shop and Earn for RAHS for ways you can donate funds with your regular purchases.

If you or anyone you know took any pictures of this amazing event and are willing to share, please email them to ahsauction@aviationptsa.org, or bring them to Mr. McLaughlin on a thumb drive (which will be returned).  Thank you!

Quote of the Week—submitted by Maren Gibson, RAHS sophomore.

I have discovered that a screw-shaped device such as this, if it is well made from starched linen, will rise in the air if turned quickly.

— Leonardo Da Vinci, Codice Atlantico, describing his Helical Air Screw, 1480.
