Principal’s Message

To everyone who planned, organized, or participated in last weekend’s Pathfinder Gala, well done! Theda Hiranaka and Susan McEwen deserve tremendous praise for their tireless effort to do all the behind-the-scenes work to support a magnificent event.  I appreciate our staff/former staff who served as chaperones:  Mr. Davolt, Ms. Lee, Mr. Joshi, Ms. Nurzhanov, Mr. Peterson, Ms. Thatcher, and Ms. Wombold.  Thank you!  Peter Morton is saluted for his skill as master of ceremonies and role as wingman extraordinaire to Raisbeck Aviation High School.  The 2014 Pathfinders, Colonel Joe Jackson, John Cashman and Jack Wimpress, shared personal testimonies of bravery, determination, and persistence to inspire everyone.

Special recognition is in order to our Pathfinder interns for the work they have done over this past year. Our Pathfinder interns, Loren McDonald, Gabby Rivera, Abby Eades, Bridget Heiland, Olivia Shiffer, Gloria Whang, and Sophia Gut modeled poise and confidence and represented themselves and RAHS with flying colors.  Great job interns!

During last Thursday’s ten-year anniversary assembly, our alumni made us laugh, cry, and leave feeling a little more grateful for our permanent home.  I appreciated the key stories that are responsible for shaping many of our traditions and core values. The alumni expressed an interest in being available to current RAHS students.  Students, if you have a follow up question, please feel free to contact them by email—see the Round of Applause section for their contact information. The RAHS Board of Directors in attendance were deeply moved by the assembly.

Erik Lindbergh, grandson of Charles Lindbergh, sent a follow-up note that I thought you might enjoy—

Thank you one and all, for your extraordinary efforts to create a brighter future for our kids! Last month we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the Ansari XPRIZE in Mojave and yesterday we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of RAHS. It feels incredibly empowering to be a part of a small group of people who changed the way we do spaceflight/education, and now to see and hear the experiences of the RAHS alumni it gives me tremendous hope. So I have to ask: Can we do it again? Of course we can, but more importantly, these kids are inspired and empowered to create their own positive changes in the world – perhaps the greatest gift of all.

With tremendous gratitude,

Erik Lindbergh

Students, do you have pictures or video of the ten year anniversary assembly?  If so, please forward those files to Mr. McLaughlin.

Last week, the Chief Seattle Council Advancement Committee recognized Zach Tallar, Class of 2018, for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout! Through his hard work, he joined an exclusive group of the 2% of Scouts that earn the rank.  Congratulations Zach, we’re proud of you!

A Round of Applause—acknowledging those who make RAHS a better place.

A special thank you to our alumni presenters:

Quote of the Week—submitted by Maren Gibson, RAHS sophomore.

I have discovered that a screw-shaped device such as this, if it is well made from starched linen, will rise in the air if turned quickly.

— Leonardo Da Vinci, Codice Atlantico, describing his Helical Air Screw, 1480.
