Principal’s Message
Dear
students, staff, parents and families:
This
Thursday, October 17, we will be celebrating the grand opening of our new
facility on the Museum of Flight’s campus.
It’s going to be an incredibly exciting and busy day, so I want to
ensure you have all the information you need to help us make Thursday’s
celebration a success!
The
day’s schedule of events is as follows:
6:30 a.m. --Students and
parents scheduled to be on board the Alaska Airlines flight report to RAHS with
PHOTO ID. Students are to be dressed
in blue RAHS t-shirt and appropriate slacks or skirt. (Exception: Robotics
students in their team polos and Science Olympiad members in team shirts.)
· Drop off
backpacks in Ms. Week’s Room on first floor, then report to The Museum of
Flight
· If you drive to school, please park at RAHS and
walk across the street to The Museum of Flight
6:30 – 6:45 Students,
parents, & special guests board the Boeing Buses at the Museum of Flight
and depart for Air Cargo at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to then board
the Alaska Airlines jet.
8:30 a.m. Festivities
begin at The Museum of Flight (for specially invited guests and parents—NOT for
students!)
· Parents and other attendees: please park at RAHS
and walk across the street to The Museum; there will not be parking available
at The Museum.
9:00 a.m. (or
sooner)--
All students who are not on the flight, report
PROMPTLY to first period class, dressed in your RAHS blue t-shirt with nice
slacks for guys, and skirts or slacks for girls. Attendance will be taken by your
teacher. If you do not have a first period class/have late arrival to school,
report to Ms. Carper in the Counseling Center.
9:05 a.m.—Students and
staff walk to the Museum of Flight to see the plane touch down and show your
spirit as passengers step off the plane.
Media (newspaper, TV, other) will be in attendance, and they usually
randomly select people to interview. Be
professional and show enthusiasm about this historical day in celebration of a
nine-year journey to find a permanent home! Our ASB officers & RAHS spirit
squad will be leading cheers and directing you to the appropriate spot to
gather.
9:15 a.m.--Plane lands at
The Museum of Flight, delivering students, alumni, parents and honored guests
9:15-9:45 a.m. After
everyone exits the plane, we will relocate for the formal speaking program
· Parents: You will be viewing the program through a
live stream in The Allen Theater at the Museum of Flight; the Allen
Theater is located to the left of the Information Desk when you enter The
Museum. We will have volunteers
available to direct you should you have any questions or trouble locating the
theater.
· Students who are arriving on the plane: You, too, will also be viewing the program
in The Allen Theater at the Museum (Exceptions are students who have been
asked to be part of the formal program at RAHS from 10:00-11:00 a.m. or conduct
tours from 11:00-12:00)
· Students welcoming the plane on the ground, we
need your help to direct people to RAHS for the program; when the
passengers exit the plane, between 9:15-9:30, you should be flanking either
side of the path they’ll take off the plane and into The Museum. You’ll welcome our honored guests and your
fellow classmates with banners, signs and cheers before leading the way to
RAHS’ Boeing Presentation Center. Our ASB officers & RAHS spirit squad will
be leading the cheers.
· RAHS student ambassadors will help guide invited
guests across the sky bridge from The Museum to the school
10:00 a.m.—The formal part of the program
starts in the Boeing Presentation center at RAHS and is simulcast to The
Museum’s Allen Theater
11:00 a.m. (or whenever the program ends)—Students
report to third period class!
Students who have watched from Allen Theater,
return to RAHS and report to 3rd period.
11:15 a.m.—Student -led tours of RAHS begin
12:00-1:00—Lunch for invited guests in the Red
Barn at the Museum of Flight (parents and alumni on flight are included)
12:15 Lunch for RAHS students, followed by:
1:05-1:50—Period
4
1:55-2:40—Period
5
2:45-3:30—Period

success!

this historical grand opening celebration
More of the Principal’s message:
Congratulations
to:
·
Shyam Ajudia, Lewis Brancati, Hudson Hohimer,
and Dalton Huey for earning recognition as a Commended Student by
the National Merit Scholarship Program. They were selected for
their outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying
Test in 2012. “The young men and women being named Commended Students have
demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson
for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing
their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their
academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in
our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational
opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic
success.” Well done, RAHS scholars! We are proud of you.
·
Skunkworks Robotics who competed at Girls Generation this past
Saturday, a competitive event focused on
getting the girl members of FIRST Robotics teams more involved in competitions
and inspiring women to have a greater interest in engineering and STEM. Only
the girls from our team, both FRC and FTC, operated the robot and made
necessary repairs, and their hard work paid off! After a long day of
qualification matches, Skunkworks was in first place and had the opportunity to
lead the first of four alliances. They chose 1318 IRS (Issaquah Robotics Society)
and 1899 Saints Robotics to be their alliance partners and after one quick fix
before final matches, the Red Alliance became the winners of the Girls
Generation Competition! They couldn't have done it without the support of the
parents, mentors, friends and the male members of the team who cheered them on.
Great job this weekend, Women! You make
us proud! (Note: Thanks to Jaclyn Wing
for submitting a summary report to me.)
·
The
ASB and other student leaders for planning a great Spirit Week and Homecoming
dance last Saturday that were enjoyed by all!
·
new Freshmen Class
Captains, Matthew Vreevoogd and Aileen Nguyen!
All candidates were outstanding, and I encourage you all to become
actively engaged in school activities.
Your leadership is needed and welcomed.
Enjoy
this week of learning, which includes a heavy emphasis on college preparation
and planning, and celebration! I am
honored to be your principal.
Reba G.
