Principal’s Message
Our school culture places tremendous value on the practice of self-advocacy. We believe the benefits extend far beyond the walls of RAHS. As a starting point, communicate your needs and concerns with your teachers. RAHS teachers monitor progress data regularly and display an array of amazing talents, but they do not read minds. Your initiative and shared perspective widens the bridge of understanding between you and your teacher. It seems simple, but self-advocacy, like swimming, cannot be learned by reading about it. Use the evidence from your academic track record and teachers’ feedback to guide you in becoming a better self-advocate.
A Round of Applause—acknowledging those who make RAHS a
better place.
9th grade teachers—for being willing to try a new approach
to Student Led Conferences.
Karl Nielsen—for providing superb technical assistance
at every assembly and school-wide function.
Dana Husby—for nourishing our teachers with delicious
snacks during Student Led Conferences.

NEW
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Dress Code
RAHS
is committed to the high standards of learning and professional culture dress
code. Here is a brief reminder of what to wear and not to wear at RAHS.
Male students must wear chino or corduroy
slacks and collared or polo shirts from Monday through Thursday. In addition to
these options, female students may wear skirts or dresses below fingertip
length and tops or blouses covering bare shoulders, cleavage, and midriffs.
On casual Fridays, students may wear
jeans and RAHS or college apparel.
Students may not wear torn clothing,
sleepwear, sweatpants, sportswear, non-RAHS apparel, shorts, hats, sunglasses,
open-toed shoes, chains, or spiked jewelry.
Please
respect RAHS Dress Code policy.
Sincerely,
Nuka
Nurzhanov, Dean
of Students
At
the biggest and most competitive tournament of the season thus far, the Flaming
Penguins performed wonderfully!
Zach Newton was recognized as the top
presiding officer in Novice Congressional Debate.
Mimi Yousef was a finalist in Novice
Interpretive Reading.
Jacob Simmons placed 1st in Novice
Extemporaneous Speaking.
Zahnae Aquino and Shailee Stevens were quarterfinalists in Open Public Forum, with Mimi Yousef placing as the 2nd place

Although
our dearest penguins performed well, expect them to perform even better at
their next competition at PLU next month!

first Invitational of the year on December 6th, at Interlake High School. Help
support your team and wish them luck in the upcoming week!
Gloria Whang has
just been selected as one of the few exceptional high school students for the
Reischauer Scholars Program. This prestigious program sponsored by the
Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education has chosen 25
exceptional high school students from throughout the United States to engage in
an intensive study of Japan. Gloria will participate in the online course on
Japan from February to June next year. Congratulations Gloria!
Parents, students must not stay
at school after 6 PM
unless they are directly supervised and participating in a school event/club or

If you
are unable to pick your child up before 6 PM on a regular school day, please
arrange a carpool (connect with the PTSA) or make other arrangements for
transportation. For liability reasons, your child must be supervised or
find a way home by 6PM. Thank
you!
