was a wonderful spirit of camaraderie and appreciation for one another. Seniors, you will be missed, so please come
back to visit. It’s hard to believe that commencement is this Wednesday, but
how very exciting to be transitioning to a next stage of life in which there
will be unlimited possibilities. Congratulations, Seniors! We are proud of you.

Students
and families: We ask that all students
be off campus by 12:30 PM this Thursday.
Please
make transportation arrangements in advance since staff will not be on campus
to supervise students. Thank you in
advance.
Good
news still keeps coming to AHS students.
Congratulations to:
·
Austin Spores and Mike Marinkovich, who have been offered
paid positions as Kenmore Express
Dispatchers with Kenmore Air. Their mentoring with Bill Anderson,
internship projects on docking for float planes and other real world
experiences have let to this fabulous opportunity.
·
Brian Huynh, who will join
Mike Huynh working with scientists as an intern at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
·
Skye Mceowen, who has landed a 32 hour/week paid
internship with Champion and Associates
where she’ll be working with CAD, robots and other fun stuff! Way to go Skye!
·
Jashanpreet
Kaur
has been offered a full time, paid internship with the Port of Seattle in Aviation Operations. Fantastic!
·
Aaron Mau and
Brian Gonzales Montoya who have both been offered paid internships at Hytek Esterline where they’ll use their
CAD skills in a “Masking Internship” for coating of airplane parts. GREAT
NEWS!
·
Jacob
Hoag, who has been offered a full time, paid position with the Aviation Training Center!
·
Quinn
Schiller, who developed his own paid internship with Tableau- a tech company where he’ll be working on tutorial videos
that involve robots.
Our
internship program has developed into one of the finest models in the country,
thanks to the Paul G. Allen Foundation that provided a grant, which allowed us
to hire Ms. Burr and Ms. Pappas before her to give our career readiness
programs a boost. This summer, we will have over 160 students in STEM
internships, primarily in aerospace-related companies and organizations. Congratulations to all students who will
enjoy such extraordinary experiences!
As
the school year really does come to a close this week and you all depart for
the adventures of summer and continued learning, I wish to thank you for
choosing Aviation High School to acquire new knowledge and skills and prepare
for college and career. I look forward
to the continued journey with you at our new Raisbeck Aviation High School in
fall of 2013. We fully plan to start
school on Wednesday, September 4. Should
there be any changes, though, be assured we will let you know by posting on our
website and making a robo call to all homes.
The Sky is NOT the limit!
I
am honored to be your principal. Warmest
regards—

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
Dress Code for 2013-2014: You will
receive a slightly revised dress code policy when you register this summer. We
have decided to continue with our “business casual” requirements, but with
increased monitoring by ASB as well as staff for better accountability. There will be far more traffic at the Museum
of Flight and more opportunities for students to participate in professional
meetings and speaking engagements. No
denim means no denim, regardless of color so please keep that in mind when you
buy back-to-school clothes. We are
adding that all students need to have a white shirt/blouse for next
year. Guys will need a pair of black
dress slacks and dress shoes (and socks that match; no white socks, please!),
and a tie. Women will need black pants
and/or a black skirt of appropriate length and dress shoes in addition to a
white shirt.
Thank you to those who donated to Project Amelia over the past several months as well as the parents and
teachers who attended the Tin Theater movie event. Collectively you helped raise over $1700 which will
be matched by a Museum of Flight board member! I, Jaclyn Wing, am grateful
for your support in my efforts with this project. As a high school student I am
still learning and having the ability to plan the event and fundraise has
allowed me an experience to grow. Thank
you for making it a success!

Reducing Wait Times through MealTime.com
Recently, HSD nutrition services upgraded the
point-of-sale/payment system for student meals. Consequently, when
payment occurs at the point of sale for breakfast and lunch, the students
experience longer wait times when adding money to their accounts. At
Raisbeck Aviation High School, our daily schedule will continue with the single
lunch period for the entire school. Any reduction in the wait time
for getting breakfast or lunch offers welcomed relief.
In order to streamline the transactions, the district
offers a nominal-cost service for depositing money into student accounts.
Creating an account is simple. Once an account is created, families may
review balances and deposit funds at any time.
Our goal is to encourage as many families as
possible to set up a mealtime.com account for next year. If you
have not accessed this service, please visit www.mymealtime.com to learn more and set up your account. Thank you.
TCVA (TACAMO Community Veterans
Association) is looking for 10 responsible students to work as table Judges.
Volunteers need to arrive at 2pm on September 1, 2013 to help with set-up.
Before Banquet begins, volunteers will receive a meal. The event
begins at 5pm. Volunteers are expected to stay until 10:30pm.
Location: DoubleTree
Seattle Airport – Southside, 16500
Southcenter Parkway, Seattle, MA 98188
