Principal’s
Message
Welcome to the start of a new decade for us—RAHS celebrates ten
years of operation as we open our doors to the 2014-2015 school year. It is an honor to serve as the school’s second
principal and continue the mission championed by our own visionary, Ms. Reba Gilman.
I am happy to report that all of our amazing teachers have returned!
However, there are two, new full-time staff
members who need an introduction, our Dean of Students, Ms. Nuka Nurzhanov, and Office Manager, Susan McEwen. Ms. Nurzhanov
comes to us from Auburn High School and Ms. McEwen spent most of her career
with the Boeing Company. Please join me
in welcoming them to RAHS!
As we launch the start of a new school year, be sure to read the rest of the
NOTAM for important announcements and opportunities. Make it a habit to read it each week to
ensure that you are well informed and ready to take advantage of all that will
be offered.
Please
mark your calendar for the first opportunity,
our Evening of Learning, on Thursday, September 18th. What
other schools might refer to as “open house” or “curriculum night,” our Evening
of Learning is designed to provide you with an accelerated tour through all of
your student’s classes and meet their teachers. In addition to attending classes, we are
offering one session prior to the official start of the program at 6:00 p.m. If your schedule permits, consider attending Helping your Student Succeed at RAHS from 4:50-5:35 p.m. which will be
facilitated by Counselor Katie Carper and staff.
While
you have your calendar handy, make a note for Saturday, November 8th
at 6:00PM—our annual auction at the Museum of Flight. Bring your spouse or special guest to make
this magical event a date night. I promise you will enjoy the evening and
likely find the right item you’ve been wishing for as you directly support our
community.
A new feature in this year’s NOTAM is a section entitled A Round of Applause. It is my chance to publicly thank and acknowledge
individuals who make RAHS a better place through their volunteer service,
recognize the accomplishments of our students, and tout the success of our
staff.
This week, I would like to focus on the events and activities
from this summer. Admittedly, the parent volunteers who supported our
Registration Day deserved recognition, but I lost track of all the names from the
small army of volunteers. Thank you for your service!
Nancy Wing and Mike Tenne (PTSA Co-
Presidents), Steve Burke (PTSA Co-Vice President), and Debbie Beardemphl—direct support of the Blue Angels
Event, and the All School Family Picnic
Irene Balbuena—Chair of the All School
Family Picnic
Robin Lee—Blue Angels Intern
Supervisor
Bonnie Demaree—Chair of the Staff Appreciation
Breakfast
Neal Hawdon—Algebra Boot Camp Instructor
Rachel Demaree—Founder of 9th grade
English Roadmap for Success
Peter and Sarah Anderson--hosting RAHS staff for retreat

Cathie Coyle Toone, Martha Ortiz, and
Emily Thatcher—Co-chairs for the 2014 RAHS Auction.
Please accept my apology in advance if I’ve unintentionally missed
anyone.
With that, I trust our scholars look forward to a year of extraordinary
learning, are excited to make new friends, and plan to take full advantage of
the opportunities to get involved in the RAHS culture.
Honored to serve as your new principal—Bruce Kelly
NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
Science
Olympiad
Calling all those who wish to embrace their inner
nerd, interested in learning new things, or want to join a winning team.
Science Olympiad’s information sessions will be held from 8:00 to 8:45 AM in
the BPC from September 8th through the 12th. Except
for Wednesday, September 10th, which will be held in Room 2350. We
are looking forward to a great year!
From the career center
“The Pathfinder Gala” is an annual formal event at
the Museum of Flight which honors 3 professionals who have made major
contributions to aviation/aerospace. Students from any grade can apply through
a one page essay which will be due 10/1/13.
About 75 students will be selected to attend an Etiquette Training on 10/21/14 and the event on 10/25/13.
More information forthcoming from Steve Davolt, Career Center.
The industry professionals who mentor our students play a
significant role in the preparation of our RAHS students. Students who already have a mentor, make note
that the Mentor Breakfasts will
be: Oct 8, Dec 3, Jan 21, March 18
and May 22 this academic year. Please initiate communication with your
mentor now, and set up times to get together, including the breakfast
meetings. Sophomores will soon be hearing more about the program and
those interested in participating will be paired with a mentor in October.
Our INTERNSHIP
program has exceeded our wildest expectations with over 160 students working
and learning in real world experiences. Students who have held internships over
the summer need to submit a one page reflection and the total # of hours worked
to Mr. Davolt ASAP. If you worked at the Museum of Flight, they will
submit your hours for you but we still need a reflection.
