Principal’s Message:

Scholars, we are now at the mid point of third quarter! It’s a very good time to reflect on your progress and refine goals, if necessary, to meet your learning targets. Parents and guardians—we encourage you to do frequent checks of your student’s progress on Edline and also have conversations at home about the importance of staying on track for learning. Our staff is also available for conferences and providing extra support when needed. Third quarter ends March 29.

Please read the Announcements section for new information and opportunities. As always, I am honored to be your principal.  May you have an “Oscar/Academy Award” week of learning!
                                                                                    ~Reba G.

Imagine Highline: Your Game-Changing Ideas for Our Schools (Message from the superintendent)

Have you seen Highline’s new online discussion forum website, Imagine Highline?  It’s an easy way for staff, students, families, and community members to give input on issues facing our schools.

On Imagine Highline, you can post ideas, comment on others’ ideas, and engage in discussions with fellow community members. It is a way to exchange ideas in a format that fits into our busy lives, knowing we don’t always have time or energy to attend public meetings. We will be talking about all kinds of topics over the coming months.

Our first conversation is about the new strategic plan that will guide our schools for the next three years. The core team of parents, teachers, principals, and district and community leaders building that plan are asking you to participate. They want your ideas and feedback so this will truly be the community’s plan for our schools.

The core team is looking for big ideas to drive a plan that will be a game-changer for Highline students. Imagine Highline is a place where you can share your boldest hopes for our children and our community. What experiences do you want students to have? What should our schools be like? What kind of community do you want to live in, and how can schools make our community all we want it to be?

Go to Imagine Highline and share your game-changing ideas!

Juniors: UW Math Academy is a FREE 4-week residential and intensive math program designed for high school juniors who are interested in pursuing engineering and technology.  The goal of the program is to enhance students’ strengths in math problem solving to better prepare them for the rigorous college-level mathematics coursework required of top engineering schools like the University of Washington’s College of Engineering.  In particular, we hope to serve underrepresented, low-income, first-generation, and female students and support them in their goals of becoming engineers.  During the program, students will engage with alumni, current students, and UW faculty.  They will tour the facilities of companies like Boeing and Amazon and get a first-hand look at what it means to be an engineer.  Students will get to enjoy their surroundings with trips to Pike Place Market and Snoqualmie Falls, and activities like canoeing on Lake Washington or playing intramurals in UW facilities.  Participants also get individualized college admissions advising from UW admissions counselors.
