Lately, RAHS is enjoying a streak of extraordinary great news—the PACCAR Inc. grant, our sports-of-the-mind-team successes, the 27 internship opportunities current listed in the career center, and the formation of new aviation/aerospace-related student clubs. This announcement, an unprecedented scholarship, builds upon that crescendo.  With the fanfare of trumpets blaring, I am thrilled to announce a new legacy scholarship was approved last week.  Please join me in thanking Dr. James Raisbeck, and Dr. Frank Ayers, Chancellor of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, for turning this idea into reality in less than seven days. The Raisbeck Aviation High School Embry Riddle Prescott Scholarship becomes the largest financial gift available at RAHS. The award is open to this year’s seniors, the class of 2015.  Underclassmen, please take note, this scholarship will be available for you too!

The RAHS-ERAU Scholarship
“The purpose of the Raisbeck Aviation High School Embry-Riddle Prescott Scholarship is to allow Raisbeck Engineering and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott Campus to recognize students from Raisbeck Aviation High School who have displayed significant achievements in education and leadership during their high school career.  The scholarship is fully renewable for up to four years providing the student maintains full time enrollment and a 3.0 GPA at Embry-Riddle, and covers full tuition for the academic year (currently valued at $30,000 annually).

To be considered for the Raisbeck Aviation High School Embry-Riddle Prescott Scholarship, an individual must be accepted for admission to the Embry-Riddle Prescott campus and be a current student at Raisbeck Aviation High School. The scholarship application must be received no later than April 15th, 2015.”

To our seniors who have been admitted to ERAU-Prescott, please see Mr. Kelly for the scholarship application, or go to the Students tab on the RAHS website to download a copy of the application.

We have two weeks of school before Spring Break, and I admire how everyone shows up each day to do their absolute best.  Your hard work is paying off and being noticed by those in the aviation community.

The Principal’s Round of Applause—acknowledging those who make RAHS a better place.

Olivia Shiffer, Isha Singh, Ashley Balbuena, and Amber Thatcher—for presenting to 6th & 7th grade girls at last week’s WomenFly! Conference held at the Museum of Flight.  These ambassadors shared the story of their journey to RAHS and the experiences that are preparing them for a STEM education and career pathway.  They also participated in a mock interview with Ms. Gilman and Ms. Thatcher that was critiqued by the 6th and 7th graders.  Bravo to our courageous young women!

Ms. Wombold, Patrick Galt, Madeline Warnes, and Nate Wilcox—for their presentation, analysis, and conclusions on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles delivered at Saturday’s PNW AIAA YP/Retiree Brunch at the Museum of Flight.  Patrick, Madeline, and Nate earned a first place finish in Ms. Wombold's new Senior Social Studies project, How to Make the Public Love Drones?

Peter Morton—for being a wingman extraordinaire, and buying brunch for RAHS presenters and staff.

Mary Zoppi, Kirstin Potter-Korin, Carol Christian, Janie Lemley, and Carlissa Markovich—for putting on a delicious St. Patrick’s Day staff lunch. We enjoyed every bite!

Dane Anders, Yasin Ali-Halane, Meaalofa Angelini, Liam Cumming, Kevin Diego, Fatima Firoz, Sophia Gut, Brynne Hunt, Bridget Heiland, Hannah Park, Mitchel Kisner, Amelia McCahil, Taylor Phelps, Nikki Macias, Ravi Sangani, Olivia Shiffer, Kalika Singh, and Khoa Tran—for serving as an RAHS ambassador on the student interview teams!

Ms. Gilman, Ms. Hiranaka, Mr. McLaughlin, Ms. Nurzhanov—for leading the student teams during the class of 2019 interviews.

Connie Sanders—for leading every parent orientation session for the class of 2019 interviews.

Honored to serve as your Principal—Bruce Kelly

Informational meeting with Ms. Dyer during CLUB TIME on Thursday, MARCH 26

First training at the Seattle Aquarium on Monday evening, MARCH 30 from 4:30-7pm

Any student interested in participating in the Citizen Science program with the Seattle Aquarium should come to an informational meeting on Thursday during club time with Ms. Dyer. This is an optional program available to any RAHS student with an interest in marine biology and ecology. Citizen Science trains high school students to collect and analyze data with the goal of providing meaningful, inquiry-based field based experience that allows students to participate in real-world problem solving.

Students receive several hours of training beforehand and conduct four hours of data collection for the long- term study.  Students who are interested can claim community service hours for their volunteer work in collecting this data.  There will be two field trips to a local beach in May to practice and perform the data collection protocols alongside Seattle Aquarium staff.

By April 1st.

Parents, students must not stay at school after 6 PM unless they are directly supervised and participating in a school event/club or extracurricular activity.  This is to ensure student safety and adult supervision while on the school campus.

If you are unable to pick your child up before 6 PM on a regular school day, please arrange a carpool (connect with the PTSA) or make other arrangements for transportation.  For liability reasons, your child must be supervised or find a way home by 6PM.  Thank you!
