Principal’s Message

Every week, fresh inspiration percolates through the students and staff at RAHS. Occasionally, an extra spark of energy touches the building through a visiting delegation, special presentation, or VIP.  I am excited about the extraordinary week in front of us.  On Wednesday, our entire community will listen to and connect with VIP Jessica Cox, a disability activist.  From her website, https://www.rightfooted.com/, Jessica introduces herself in a straightforward manner: “Born without arms, Jessica flies airplanes, drives cars and otherwise lives a normal life using her feet as others use their hands. She holds the Guinness World Record for being the first armless person in aviation history to earn a pilot’s certificate. Convinced that the way we think has a greater impact on our lives than our physical constraints, she chose to pursue a degree in psychology at the University of Arizona. Since then she has traveled to 20 countries sharing her inspirational message.”

Jessica specifically requested to speak to RAHS students— she is in town for the Women Fly event. We are thrilled to host Jessica, and she will deliver her presentation to all students during Wednesday’s assembly.

Seniors, please remember the first scholarship essay is due on Tuesday, March 17 (not the 15th as listed in the scholarship packet) for the Society for Chinese American Aerospace Engineers, SCAAE.  All students are encouraged to apply.  SCAAE is a first-time sponsor of a scholarship award for RAHS, and they are very excited to inspire the next generation of aerospace pioneers.

I trust this week will inspire us for the final three weeks of the third quarter.  Students and staff, thank you for doing your absolute best every day!

The Principal’s Round of Applause—acknowledging those who make RAHS a better place.

Olivia Shiffer, Kara deLeon, Mr. Peterson, and National Honor Society—for the sponsoring the blood drive.  A record number of students signed up to donate, and 177 lives were saved through the veins of RAHS students.

Henry Leaming, Uyen Tran, Joan Aoanan, Noah Palmer, and Emmanuel Rujoni—for sponsoring the Pi Day scavenger hunt and serving our pie to our hungry student mathematicians.

Stephanie Jones-Gunn and the RAHS student team—for preparing an entry into the Astronauts on the Town contest.

Ms. Hiranaka—for her successful nomination to Highline School District’s Gold Star Awards Bash!

Ultimate Frisbee Coach Paul Illian—our coach extraordinaire is a recognized artist. Coach Paul’s painting “Kabota Pathways” received 1st place in the Regional Veteran’s Administration Art Contest, and was voted Best in Show!  Kabota Pathways now moves on to the national contest next month. Congratulations Coach!

Honored to serve as your Principal—Bruce Kelly
