Principal’s Message

One of the intentional themes for this school year is learning to celebrate just a little bit more.  Often, the push and shove of the day turns into the blur of the week; and then, another month accelerates by, only to be seen from a rearview mirror.  A month can go by, and sometimes longer, without taking time to celebrate. The month of October is purposefully different.  Time is dedicated to celebrate our ten-year anniversary, mentor program, Pathfinder Gala, and stellar accomplishments.

For many reasons, it is appropriate to mark our ten-year anniversary with celebration and remembrance.  Our founders: students, staff, industry leaders, and visionary, former Principal/CEO, Reba Gilman, are keepers of AHS/RAHS history.  These important stories explain many of our traditions and core values.  Unfortunately, the anecdotes are widely unknown by our current students. To help bridge that gap, a special ten-year anniversary assembly is scheduled for Thursday, October 23rd, from 1:00-2:00PM. We’ll hear memorable stories from graduates and Advisory Board members, see forgotten images, and sprinkle in a surprise for fun.  Parents, if your schedule allows, please plan to join us for the assembly.

RAHS is blessed to stand on an impressive ten-year legacy.  Along with the staff, I share the desire to extend our crowning accomplishments.  This week, I was thrilled to read Puget Sound Business Journal’s on-line article: Where Does Your School Rank? (Ranked by School Performance) The top 25 public high schools in WA State.  Proudly, RAHS ranked #2 in the achievement index.  On Friday, some of the students exclaimed, “Mr. Kelly, we’re so close—we can be number one!”  I love it.  Delightedly, that honor would mark another bright moment in school history and give us cause for intentional celebration.

To view all top 25 high schools across the state, follow this link--

A Round of Applause—acknowledging those who make RAHS a better place.

Our First Mentors—who continue to serve since 2004! Mike Borfitz, Gene Kranc, Robert Reash, Mark Rupert, Eric Schutten, and Dan Hrehov.

Ms. Hiranaka—along with her other wonderful gifts, has earned the distinction as resident historian!

Honored to serve as your Principal—Bruce Kelly

Quote of the Week—submitted by Maren Gibson, RAHS sophomore.

To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow.
