Principal’s Message
Looking
at this week’s activity-packed calendar, I am reminded of the old adage, Today
Matters. To a large degree, that means
being intentional. As you apply yourself in the classroom or engage in any
opportunity, make it count along lines of excellence. Throughout my classroom visits, I am thrilled
to see students making the most of their learning. At RAHS, we enjoy frequent reminders that
Today Matters given our context for learning and uncounted opportunities. I believe the origin of our
make-the-most-of-every-opportunity culture is traceable to AHS’s earliest
days.
This
Thursday, we will learn about the early years of AHS as we celebrate our ten
year anniversary during a special assembly. Alumni from the classes of 2008,
2009, 2010, and 2010 are excited to share stories
and images to help us understand many of our traditions and core values. Students, you will have the opportunity to
pose questions and interact with our alumni during the assembly.
In
addition to the assembly this week, there are three separate events tied to our
Pathfinder tradition: etiquette
training, Pathfinder luncheon, and Pathfinder Gala. The 2014 Pathfinder honorees, John Cashman, John K.
Wimpress, and Joe M. Jackson will arrive on campus for Friday’s
luncheon. Altogether, over 85 RAHS students are preparing for the Pathfinder
events and I encourage each of you to make the most of these once-in-a-lifetime
opportunities. Consider this activity-packed week as a perfect invitation to
live like Today Matters.
A Round of Applause—acknowledging those who make RAHS a
better place
Honored
to serve as your Principal—Bruce Kelly

Message
from Mrs. McEwen - The seasons are changing and it is dark when so
many of you head off to school in the morning. I want to caution you all. Each and every one of you scholars is very
precious. I pass another high school as
I drive to RAHS on dark, rainy and foggy mornings. Sometimes I find it difficult to see a
student who is wearing dark clothing while walking down an unlighted dark
sidewalk. If you walk to catch a ride in
the dark, please think about wearing something light colored so you are visible
and please take extra precautions with your safety. If you drive yourself or a carpool to RAHS,
please take extra precautions as a driver if you go through an area where
pedestrians are walking to another school or waiting at a bus stop. I want you all to be safe!
Congratulations
to Skunk Works Robotics who competed
at Girls Generation on Saturday, Oct 18. The event was coordinated by team 2046
Bear Metal at Tahoma Jr. High School. This the competition focused on getting
the girl members of FIRST Robotics teams more involved in competitions and to
inspire young women to have a greater interest in STEM fields. Only the lady
skunks operated the robot and made necessary repairs; their hard work paid off!
After a long day of qualification matches, Skunkworks was in fourth place of 24
competing teams and had the opportunity to be selected by team 1318 IRS
(Issaquah Robotics Society) in the first alliance along with Team 2976 Spartabots! With success in the elimination
matches, the alliance became the winners of the Girls Generation Competition!
This marks the third consecutive win for Skunk Works and the second for IRS. They
couldn't have done it without the support of the parents, mentors, friends, and
RAHS students that were cheering on Skunkworks or the help of their alliance
teams 1318 IRS and 2976 Spartabots. Great job this weekend, you've earned it!
Skunk Works Spaghetti Dinner
October 24th.
Tickets are on sale now. Contact anyone on the Skunk Works FRC team to

Raisbeck Aviation High School. Scouts
will learn about the robotics industry, careers in robotics, tool safety, and
build and program a functioning robot to perform a specific task using Lego
Mindstorms. The goal is to cover all requirements necessary to earn the Merit
Badge for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Cost
