Principal’s Message
As
you make your way up the stairs this week, look up to see a shiny red airplane
that is finally flying gracefully from the third floor ceiling. Check out the tail numbers that indicate the
arrival of the plane and note the logo and sponsor names. And, it’s okay to cheer for our little Avid
Flyer and all the students and volunteers over the years who built her. She’s a beauty! Enjoy!
This
year, as part of our marketing and recruitment efforts, we have invited eighth
graders in Highline’s four middle schools to visit us at our new school. This replaces the presentations we have done
in previous years at each of the middle schools. I will
be calling on ASB and others this week to participate in the facilitation of
programs for each school. Your teachers will also be prepping you to share
various aspects of your learning while our guests are on campus. The following
chart shows the visitation schedule:

will notice that the number of students expected to tour varies by school. We will adjust our program to accommodate the

Student-led
conferences are being held today and tomorrow.
This means there will be no school for students on Wednesday. Thank you, students and parents, for making
the conferences a priority.
Last Friday,
our FTC Robotics team, under the
very capable coaching of Stephanie
Morrison, and with support of many mentors, entered its very first
competition of the season! The competition was held on our campus, and the
excitement and anticipation could be heard and felt throughout the school.
Our junior varsity team gave it their all, finishing 7th and 12th.
Congratulations, team! We are proud of you and look forward to your next
match on December 6th

NEW
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Student-Led
Conferences:
On
Monday 11/25 and Tuesday 11/26 we will be holding student-led conferences from
3:40 – 6:10 p.m. During the
conference, your child will outline his/her academic goals, explain what s/he
is learning in his/her classes, and support his/her explanations with evidence
chosen from his/her body of work.
Student-led conferences will last approximately 20-25 minutes.
From your ASB:
Last week was the beginning of the
Shave It or Save It for the Free the Children Fundraiser to help us raise money
for schools in India. Our school has the potential to raise so much more money
than last week, so the fundraiser then ends on December 6. There are some
changes in the way we'll be doing it though. For every $100, one teacher or ASB
member will have to complete their dare (the dying or shaving their hair). If
we get to $600, everyone will have to get complete their dare!
This Friday, the Spirit Shack will
be open in cafeteria. We have new Seattle stride socks and V-necks! All
t-shirts will be $5 and sweatpants will be $15 for ASB Card Holders, so please
make sure to show your ID card at the time of purchase. New items are on the
way!
The birthday wall will be up soon!

If you ever want to come to know
what ASB is up to, please stop our meetings and see what we're doing! The
meetings are open to all students. They are on Wednesdays starting at lunch,
come and say hi!
Robotics:
Are
you interested in volunteering at any of the robotics events coming up
sponsored by WA FIRST? WA FIRST will host 75 events this year with most
of them taking place between December 2013 and April 2014 and additional
volunteers are needed. The RAHS community is well aware of the value of
this program by watching your Skunks do amazing things.
Our
most urgent need at the moment is for adult Judges and referees for the FIRST
Lego League (FLL) events, which target students ages 9-14 who build and program
a robot to complete a themed challenge. These events run for a single day
on either a Saturday or a Sunday. We have upcoming FLL events on December
7th, 8th, and 15th in Ballard and Auburn.
Once
registered, select the Events tab and choose a specific event or two to
volunteer for. An example of the upcoming events where we need help soon
is found here:
Need a Transcript?:
Seniors:
All
students who request transcripts for college applications must pick up the
transcript request forms from the Registrar’s office and allow 2-3 days for
processing. When picking up your
transcript, please do so before or after
school or at lunch—thank you! If you
are requesting an unofficial transcript, please remember to pick them up from
the Registrar’s office, but not during instructional time. Your
cooperation is needed and appreciated!
Science Olympiad:
Science
Olympians,
a friendly reminder that studiers are required to come to Science Olympiad on
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while builders are required to come on
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Start
saving the dates for our Mandatory Marathon Saturdays where you get to
practice, work, and compete against your Olympian peers!

National
Honor Society:
Attention RAHS - Sister Schools is over and we have the final count! Coming
in first place with 1,352 links are the seniors! And the sophomores
in second with 733, the juniors came in third place with 707, and in
last place the freshmen with 159. Congratulations seniors, your spirit is
undeniable and we salute you. Enjoy your 100 spirit points! But the most
important thing is that you guys raised a total of $808.50: 404
backpacks for the kids in Uganda! You should be so proud of yourselves. We
certainly are!

The RAHS PTSA enriches student
education, supports teachers and staff, enhances parent involvement and
communications, advocates for our school and its students, and promotes school
spirit.
We—parents, teachers, students,
alumni—have an opportunity to take our voice into the future on the PTSA
storyboard that will be on permanent display at RAHS. If you have an inspirational message,
Parent-to-Student or Student-to-Student, to help young people be safe, healthy
and successful that you would like us to consider for the storyboard, please

Thanks
to all of you for participating in the Raisbeck Aviation HS PTSA Auction on November
2nd. Your work has again shown that "The Sky Is Not The Limit" to
benefit this amazing school. While our final numbers are not yet in, it looks
like "you" helped set new records for net income along with overall
attendance and gross donations. We expect to have final number and more details
to present at the PTSA December 4th general meeting. We would love to have you attend that meeting
in the Boeing Presentation Center at RAHS at 6:00pm on Wednesday December 4th.

Reflections – PTSA’s Fall Art Festival:
Believe.
Dream. Inspire. All students are invited to create an
original work of art that reflects this theme for the fall art
festival. Recognition and cash prizes awarded for
entries in any of 6 different categories: Photography, Visual Arts,
Literature, Music Composition, Choreography, and Film short. Art
will be accepted in the office until Dec 6th. More details are
available at http://www.aviationptsa.org/ Art that
starts at RAHS may end up in a select show at the US Department of Education.
Bonus: We’ll take care of the packaging for you.
Athlete’s Corner:
Highline
Public Schools would like to recognize the following Raisbeck Aviation High
School students for their achievements
in Swim & Dive.
Kayla Loy - qualified
for four events and placed at West CentraI District III in two events. She just
missed qualifying for State by a second. She was awarded Seamount League 2nd
Team by the League coaches and is Team Captain for Highline High School.
Emma Murray - qualified
for Districts in five different individual events and placed on the podium in
two in the Finals. Emma was awarded 1st Team by the League. Emma qualified for
State in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke and placed 21st and 14th overall in
State. Emma is also recognized by WIAA as a scholar athlete. She is the team
captain for Evergreen Campus.
Sophia Cassam is also
recognized by the WIAA as a scholar athlete with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Sophia
qualified early for State in Diving, winning 1st place at League, 4th place in
Districts, and 14th place at State overall. Sophia qualified for 7 different
events for Districts and was recognized by the Seamount League as 1st Team in
Diving and 2nd Team in Swimming. She swims for Highline High school.
Congratulations
to the above named students for their hard work, determination, and drive to
succeed. HSD Seamount League Coach of the Year, Rachel Loy, is very proud to
have such fine young ladies on her swim team. They make coaching easy.
Community News:
On
December 6, the Boeing Employees Choir
will present a concert to benefit Highline Music4Life. HM4L donates musical
instruments for use by low-income students in our district. To date, HM4L has
provided dozens of band and orchestra instruments, as well as guitars and
ukuleles for our students.
Tyee Holiday
Bazaar
Start your holiday shopping at the
Tyee Holiday Bazaar. The Bazaar hosts over 100 hand-made and commercial craft
vendors offering their unique creations for sale on Saturday, December 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the Tyee Campus in
SeaTac. There will also be Christmas trees for sale, pictures with Santa,
Prizes, food, an espresso stand and holiday music and cheer throughout the day.

MAKE-UP DAYS—Everyone,
please remember that our late start to the school year means that we must make up the three days we missed at the
start of the school year. We have
made up one. Please plan to come to school on the following two days:

16, 2014—half day of school, dismissal at Noon
School
bus transportation will be provided for Highline students.
Attention
Seniors: Please
don’t wait until the last minute to schedule your senior picture appointment. Senior pictures are due on Friday, January
10, 2014 to yearbook. Look for the flyer in advisory this week that lists
the specific requirements.
Community
Service Forms: Please
be sure to fill out your community services forms in full before turning them
in to the career center. They cannot be
approved if they are missing student information, parent and/or advisor
signatures. Blank community service
forms will be available in the Career Center.

eScrip: As you may
have previously heard, with eScrip, your grocery and retail purchases earn
money for RAHS. Now you can also earn money for our school when you dine
at local restaurants. Other merchants in our area providing
support include Safeway and Bartell Drugs. You may also register
your credit cards and your purchases will earn even more cash for RAHS.
If
you have previously enrolled in eScript, please log in and do the annual
reactivation. If you haven't yet enrolled, please join and support
