As a reminder, family vacations taken during regular school days, will be unexcused, per state law. Please plan accordingly.

A big thank you to everyone who attended the Highline Public Schools’ board meeting that was held at our school last Wednesday.  Your show of support was deeply appreciated.  Special thanks to those who provided tours and presented to the board. We received many compliments about our new school and the focus of our instructional program.  Thank you to PTSA President Steve Burke for attending the meeting!

Thank you, ASB, for planning and facilitating the Student of the Quarter Assembly last week.  Congratulations again to recipients who were honored for demonstrating CLASS—Character, Leadership, Attitude, Scholarship, and Service: Freshmen Kaeden Wile and Mariam Mayanja, Sophomores Kara de Leon and Senay Emmanuel, Juniors Kristen Lemley and Emilio Anselma, and Seniors Sasha Friedrich and Andrew May.

Congratulations to the following students who were selected to attend the Joe Sutter Dinner Lecture last Saturday, sponsored by the Seattle Branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society: Noah Kramer, Brian Gonzales-Montoya, Noah Palmer, Jaclyn Wing, Ian Demaree, Jade Jordan, Emilio Anselmo, Xhelan Sylve, Natalie Carmichael, Julia Shettler, Katie Burell, Yenni Lee, Meleake Wubbie, Nicole Diaz, Najib Osman, Kouga Rollins, Aileen Nguyen, Colin Marvin, Tatayana Jenkins, Joanmarie Aoanan, Alfiya Yesuf, Meg Vader, Lona Medhane, Zakaria Sharif Hassan, Darci Franklin, Sasha Friedrich, Logan McSwain, John Copeland, Harkarn Baines, Emory Eng, Dwight Aoanan, Rachel Demaree, Teal Dowd, Camila Palacio, Sophia Gut, Savan Vekaria, Elsa Aguilar, Emma Finnsson, Andrea Wooley, Lily Johnson, Mamesa El, Loren McDonald, and AHS alumni Hunter McSwain.  Special thanks to chaperones Mr. & Mrs. Wooley, Mr. Kelly, and Mr. Joshi.

Last Saturday, our Skunkworks Robotics Team hosted approximately 100 Boy Scouts for a Robotics Merit Badge Fair.  Praise for the program our Skunks provided was exceptionally high from those in attendance, including scoutmasters and parents.  Thank you, Skunks, for your amazing outreach efforts, and congratulations on another stellar program that excites youth about robotics and informs them of the importance of STEM education.

This past weekend, the Speech & Debate team competed with a dozen other teams at UW Tacoma.  RAHS walked away with numerous accolades.  Benton Coblentz, Maryam Mayanja, Hanan Diriye, and Sierra Parsons all received superior awards for Extemporaneous Speaking, Congressional Debate and Public Forum respectively( Benton received two awards).  Katie McConville and Nicole Diaz received excellent awards in Extemporaneous Speaking and Congressional Debate respectively.  This is great news in preparation for our next tournament at Tahoma High School where we are aiming for our first state bid.

In closing this week, I am compelled to share that I am now a grandmother of a beautiful little girl named Cameron who arrived on 11-12-13. She has already captured my heart, and in between cuddling, I’m having conversations with her about what her future could be if she attends Raisbeck Aviation High School. :- ) Imagine that!

Please read the Announcements section for information and opportunities that add to your preparation for college and career.  Cheers to babies and a joyful week of learning.  Honored to be your principal—

Reba G.
