WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK

Wednesday:  Welcome back! Happy New Year!
Thursday:      Another extraordinary day of learning.
Friday:           Dismissal at 3:30 p.m.

Principal’s Message:

Welcome back, Scholars, and Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful break from the routines of school and that you are now rejuvenated and excited about all the possibilities for your learning in 2013!

It’s a short week of school, but please remember that Friday is a full day of learning.  Dismissal will be at 3:30 p.m.

Just before break, we heard the good news that Jake Hecla has been accepted to MIT! Congratulations, Jake!  These are exciting times for our seniors as they begin to realize how their hard work and perseverance are leading to fulfillment of their dreams and goals. I will continue to publish college acceptance notices as our seniors hear from colleges and universities.

Special thanks to everyone who attended the meeting with Purdue University representatives the day before break. Dr. Shui and Ms. Baines both reported how very impressed they were with the quality of questions that were asked and the professionalism exhibited by all of you. It’s quite possible that a special summer experience will be developed for a few students interested in attending Purdue. They very much want to see AHS students at their university.  Stay tuned for more information.

As a reminder, January 17 is the end of second quarter and first semester.  There will be no school for students on Friday, January 18 so that teachers can grade final exams and projects and submit grades to the registrar. Report cards will be mailed home the week of January 21-25.

It’s now the official Robotics season! Over the next six weeks, our Skunks will be building their robot, assisted by coaches and mentors. As I write, I don’t know what this year’s game will be, but I’m hoping for one that is as exciting as last year’s!  Good luck, Skunks!

That’s it for this week.  Enjoy these days of learning and push hard to the semester finish line on January 17. I look forward to observing your progress in 2013.  Honored to be your principal—
                                                                                                                                                Reba G.
