The Principal’s
Message
Welcome back, scholars! I trust that your Thanksgiving holiday was
filled with blessings. The extended
weekend offered a brief chance to unwind and rest—essential to maintain balance
and perspective.
I appreciated seeing students, parents, and staff engaged during
last week’s student-led conferences. The
high turnout modeled your commitment to education, and left me inspired about
our work as learning community. My hope
is that you now enjoy a deeper understanding of how you are progressing toward
meeting graduation targets, and what you can do to get on track if needed. Please enlist the assistance of the staff—including
our Success Dean, Mr. Anderson, for additional
support to meet, and preferably exceed, the requirements for success.
Many of you have been asked to participate in our final Information Night on Wednesday
evening. Pizza will again be served, and
the program is nearly identical to the one held in November. The program will start promptly in the BPC at 6:00 PM with introductions of
staff members. Please be in the BPC,
close to railings, to cheer for staff members as they are introduced. When they are dismissed at approximately 6:15,
you should join the staff member you are assisting in his or her class. Thanks to everyone who is serving as an RAHS
ambassador this event!

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Pacific Northwest Business Aviation Association, PNBAA, is holding
their annual meeting this Thursday, December 3, at 4:15 p.m. I am looking for six to eight student
ambassadors who are interested in the aviation business side of the industry,
and available to stay until 5:30 p.m. This meeting offers unmatched networking
opportunities, and an insight to see how the PNBAA sponsors RAHS. The meeting
is held at the Museum of Flight, and
includes a tasty buffet. Please see Mr.
Kelly if you are interested.
Student Ambassadors from Highline School District
Did you attend Cascade or Chinook middle school? Please sign up to serve as RAHS
ambassador for your school at the front office.

and time are found on the sign-up sheet, or see Mr. Kelly if you are
interested.
Health room
Students, if you have a fever, persistent cough, or the flu, please stay
home and rest. Lately, a growing number
of students have asked to use the health room to take a nap. The health room is designed to support
students with legitimate health-related needs—students who are ill remain the
health room’s top priority. Once a
student is checked into the health room, a decision is made after 15 minutes to
determine if the student should be sent home or return to class. The parents are called if a student has a
fever, or the student shares that they are not feeling well enough to return to
class. Thank you for your cooperation
and for modeling good public health practices.

Eligible genres (including multiple sub-genres) include techniques in: Photography; flat Visual art less than 18 x 24"; Poems/Scripts/Literary Essays. Also accepted are compositions of one student performed by self or others such as Music Composition; Choreography; and Video.

Safety
Issues
Lately, more parents are doing unsafe U-turns in
front of the bus zone area. Please do
not make U-turns here, but turn around at the west end of the building. Our student drivers with learner permits need
a positive example, and safe passage as they drive in front of the school. Thank you for your assistance with our effort
to keep everyone safe.
Students,
for your safety, please adhere to cross walk signal on East Marginal Way South.
If the flashing amber crosswalk light is blinking, do
not start into the crosswalk. The school busses cannot take a free right turn
while students are in the crosswalk. If
a bus is not waiting to make a right turn, you likely walked up behind a
vehicle waiting and entered the driver’s blind spot. Thank you parents and students for helping us
with these two safety concerns.
Our
Success Dean, Mr. Nick Anderson provides services
for students. He will be
tutoring freshmen on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 – 5:30 PM and sophomores,
juniors and seniors on Wednesdays from 3:30 – 5:30 PM. The sessions will be held in Mr. Hoehne’s
classroom, 3510.

THE CAREER CENTER
MENTORS/MENTEES -- Plan
to attend this week’s MENTOR BREAKFAST at 7:15AM in the RAHS Boeing Commons on
Wednesday 12/2. Hayden Scott will present a program about his experiences
both in the military service and now in the public sector as well as his time
at RAHS as a student mentor. Come early, grab breakfast and save a seat
to meet your mentor/mentee for a great program.
SUMMER INTERNSHIPS --
Following the December holidays, RAHS will begin posting internship
opportunities for Summer 2016. Internships will be posted in the CAREER
CENTER and in the weekly NOTAM. Depending on the particulars, positions
will be posted 2-3 weeks prior to deadlines for applications. All
applications will be read and reviewed. Finalists will be selected for
in-person interviews depending of the needs and requirements of the particular
internship. Interviews will be conducted at RAHS during the afternoon
periods and immediately after school. Final awardees will be announced
the week following conducted interviews. For planning purposes, roughly
60% of internships are paid positions with the remainder being unpaid.
All internships are eligible for RAHS credit. Credit is awarded following
submission of all appropriate paperwork to the RAHS CAREER CENTER. For

Prevention
and Intervention Team
Our Prevention and Intervention Team is here to
help you with any problems you may be having at school or outside of
school. The team meets monthly to provide supports to students who
are in need. Students of concern are identified by other staff members or
by other students. If you have a concern about yourself or a friend, please let
a member of the Prevention and Intervention Team know or talk to your advisor.
Staff members on the team include: Ms. Carper, Ms. Juarez. Mr. Kumakura, Ms.
Jones-Gunn, Mr. Storer, and Ms. Dyer.

Ms. Carper will
proctor BYU Health tests on the last
Wednesday of every month in the College/Career Center. Please order your
test from BYU two weeks in advance. If you are having trouble ordering your
test, make sure Aviation High School is on your account as your educational

PTSA

7th. Whether you purchased items or not, your presence and support for our
fantastic students and staff contributed to an exciting and fun evening.
We are in the process of calculating
the net proceeds from the auction. The final results will be revealed at the PTSA
meeting on December 14th. This information will also be communicated via e-mail
after the PTSA meeting, in case you are unable to attend.

your check/cash or send it with your child.
It should be given to Carla Nakashima, RAHS Kitchen Lead, between 8:30
AM and 8:50 AM. You will find Ms.
Nakashima in the kitchen area. Ms.
Nakashima will need your child’s student ID number.

window is open: Before School, During Lunch/Advisory/Clubs, and After
School

Include reason, parent name and phone number. District policy changed this year
