Principal’s Message
A thunderclap, jet engine, and oxygen torch share a
similar characteristic with the Class of
2016—sound intensity. During “Roll Call,” our traditional class challenge
at assemblies, the Class of 2016 boomed a 120dB roar—measured
by Dr. Edgerton’s decibel meter. Each grade-level cheered above 100dB! RAHS students, your collective energy inspires
me. Thank you to everyone, especially
our ASB Leadership Team, for skyrocketing us off to a fantastic start. I commend ASB President, Makoto
Take, for spearheading this year’s leadership theme: connecting to school spirit. I am convinced that the entire student body is
ready to soar on toward our motto: The Sky is NOT the
Limit!
There is another fantastic moment awaiting
for our school. On September 16th,
RAHS receives special recognition from the Highline School Board. Why? Earlier
this year, U.S. News and World Report
released its annual education edition that ranked the nation’s 29,070
high schools. I am
thrilled to repeat the great headline: RAHS
is ranked as the 5th best public school in WA State, and 198th nationally.
The calculation is based upon student participation and success in
Advanced Placement courses, graduation rate, and student demographics. Students and staff, your industrialized work ethic
and commitment to excellence deserve recognition and applause. Please accept my
congratulations on your spectacular achievement!
Finally, two seniors deserve
recognition for their recent achievements. Loren
McDonald earned his private pilot certificate in Hillsboro, OR on August 28. Loren earned his pilot’s license before his getting
driver’s license. How fitting it would be for an RAHS student to commute to
school by aircraft. Congratulations pilot
Loren! Peyton Gural travels to Anaheim, CA this November to compete in the
National American Miss Competition. In a state-wide contest, Peyton won the runner-up
for talent as the best vocalist. Congratulations to Peyton!
The Principal’s Round of Applause—acknowledging those who make RAHS a
better place.
Dr. James and Sherry Raisbeck—for opening their estate for our
annual staff retreat.
Rhoda Darang and Irene Balbuena—for organizing the all-school
picnic, and improvising to cook hundreds of hot dogs without a grill.
Kellie Araki, Cynthia Seidel,
Emily Thatcher—for
managing the PTSA table at the all school picnic.
Tanya McCormick—for processing and hand-numbering
all of 140 of our new pre-calculus textbooks!
Kellie Araki, Tanya McCormick, Karl
Nielsen, and Maryam Shafa—for
supporting the laptop distribution day.
Carlissa Markovich, Carol Christian, Andie Merlino,
Emma Waddill, Kirstin Potter-Korin, Kerry Van Der Veen, and Steve Burke—for organizing and supporting the staff appreciation breakfast.
Ms. Fitzpatrick, Zahnae Aquino, Romi Almeda, Josh Buenbrazo, Ashley
Balbuena, Senay Emmanuel, Sophia Gut, Brynne Hunt, Jessi Mau, Karl Nielsen, Joshua
Sherbrook, Makoto Take, Toshi Take, Catie Stukel, Uyen Tran, Julia Toone, and Matt Vredevoogd—for the well-executed opening day assembly!
I
am honored to serve as your Principal—Bruce
Kelly

Quote of the Week—
I learned that
courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is
not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
