William E. Boeing, Jr.
(1922 - 2015)
The entire state of Washington lost a great friend last Wednesday
night with the passing of William E. Boeing, Jr. on January 7. He was
92. Bill’s legendary philanthropy and accomplishments benefited all
of us. We are honored to consider him as a friend to Raisbeck Aviation High
School. To show our sympathy to the Boeing family, I am asking that you bring or express your remembrances and condolences to Bill’s wife, June. This week, a tribute table for Bill will be set up in our lobby. A stack of blank cards is provided to express your condolences or share memories. On Friday afternoon, the cards will be carried to the Museum of Flight and then hand-delivered to the Boeing family.
Many students enjoy a special memory of Bill. I remember meeting him for the first time in August 2011 at the Raisbeck Aviation High School groundbreaking ceremony. He was thrilled to be in attendance and model his support for education. Bill lingered after the ribbon-cutting ceremony and personally connected with each student who wanted to shake his hand. He attended the Pathfinder Galas, and again, remained approachable for every RAHS student. If you have a fond memory of William Boeing Jr., please take this opportunity to put it down in writing. Your sentiments will be treasured by his family.
Last Wednesday during the lunch period, four of our students were involved in a car accident on East Marginal Way. Gratefully, no one in the student-operated vehicle or the other car was seriously injured. However, it was a terrifying accident. An officer for the Tukwila Police Department cited speed as a contributing factor in the crash. With a stern tone, he exhorted our juniors and seniors who have permission to be off campus for lunch, “Raisbeck Aviation High School student drivers, keep your speed within the posted limits on East Marginal Way.” He has heard numerous complaints from surrounding businesses about how fast our student drivers travel during the lunch hour.
Responsible and safe driving is designed for the protection of everyone on the road. Your safety, and the well-being of other drivers, is dependent upon good judgment and observing the traffic laws. You are an ambassador for RAHS whether you are on campus, travel to lunch, or interact with local businesses. Student drivers, please remember to obey the posted speed limits and drive responsibly.
Education & Operations Levy and Capital Bond Proposal Levy Information: On February 10th, Highline voters will be voting on renewal of our Educational Programs and Operations Levy and a revised capital bond proposal. There are several informational meetings and two Town-Hall meetings this month to help our voters understand the levy and bond. More information is available at: www.highlineschools.org. RAHS will host a Levy Bond Information Session for Highline School District parents on Wednesday, January 28th at 6:00PM in room 3170.
Please remember that there is no school next Monday January 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Junior and his amazing legacy. There is also no school on the following Monday, January 26 to mark the end of the second quarter. Thank you for your hard work throughout the first half of the academic year!

anniversary in 2015. As part of their
celebration, they will be launching a public project titled, “Astronauts on the Town.” The museum would like RAHS to be a part

The concept is for the project to be an extension
of the Museum’s “Now everyone can be an astronaut” campaign that began in 2012.
The project will feature 25 six-foot astronaut
statues, each uniquely decorated by local artists and students. The Astronauts will be displayed in public
locations and businesses within the greater Seattle area. Let’s form a team to claim a statue for RAHS
