building will be closed on December 22 through Jan. 3, 2015 for some contractor
punch list work. The front driveway and
the walkway will be closed.
The final NOTAM for 2014 arrives with a dollop of
wonderful news. Last week, the executive board for the Pacific Northwest Business Aviation Association,
PNBAA, publicly announced a generous contribution
to RAHS. We received a check for $10,000 designated for student scholarships! I am indebted to and grateful for the industry’s continuous
support for RAHS students. Students, the scholarship awards offer a significant
savings on your college-related expenses.
Seniors, remember
to review and apply for the awards described in the scholarship packet—it becomes
available next spring. Our industry and community partners’ generosity is inspired by your hard work on display every day. Thank you for modeling true professionalism in and out of the
classroom—the generous scholarship awards are one way to see how your hard
work is rewarded.
As
a community, it’s been full throttle since the beginning of the school year.
Whew. Next week is the beginning of a
well-deserved vacation. Our extended vacation
inside the school year allow us to push the recharge buttons
for our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual selves. Take full advantage of a season that sparkles
with profound messages of faith, hope, and love. I encourage you to count all of your blessings
and create happiness for others. Rejoice,

Senior Project
Seniors, the list of names for those students
eligible for the Internship Option for the Senior Project will be posted
outside the career center by Friday of this week.
PTSA Auction Result
This year's dinner and auction was a glowing success. We
raised over $143,500! Thanks to
everyone for all of your support! It's
never too early to start donating, procuring, volunteering and signing up to be
a sponsor. We will start planning for
the 2015 auction in January. We have
plenty of room for more businesses to be involved, so talk with your employers
and favorite businesses, and remind them that 100% of the net proceeds of their
sponsor dollars (no matter how large or small) goes towards RAHS.
The 2015 sponsor opportunities will be announced in late
January. Also - We are looking for a few
new auction committee members. If you

NARCON
2015 “Inspiring Rockets” Registration Open
The Seattle Museum of Flight and the
National Association of Rocketry are bringing "Inspiring Rockets" to
Seattle on February 20-22, 2015. Hobby rocketry experts and enthusiasts from
across North America will gather to celebrate the dedication of the world's
first permanent exhibit of historical and modern hobby rocketry technology
during NARCON 2015.
Inspiring Rockets also means a weekend full of rocketry and spaceflight related lectures, panel discussions, and workshops delivered by experts in aerospace and rocketry. There will be activities for every age group and interest from beginner to expert.

Culture Club’s Holiday Party!
Culture
Club is hosting a holiday party this Thursday, December 18! The event will be
held in Ms. Wombold’s classroom,
3590. Time is 3:45 until 4:45. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy music,
stories, hot drinks, and a White Elephant exchange ($10 limit, non- gender
specific gifts, please). We also encourage those who attend to bring their
favorite holiday treat to share, and not just Christmas treats. We are a
culturally diverse school - Let’s show our heritage!

Flaming Penguins continued to succeed in competition with a strong performance
at the Auburn Riverside High School State Qualifying Tournament.
Eli
Mackley, Monica Lopez and Patrick Hoang advanced to Novice Congressional Debate Finals.
Karl
Nielsen took
5th place in Open Extemporaneous and Nicole
Diaz received a 4th place finish in Open Interpretative Reading. Zahnae
Aquino earned 2nd place in Open Spar and Emily Readey received 1st place in Novice Extemporaneous. Emily Readey and Elizabeth VanFlandern earned 1st place in Open Public Forum Debate. Congratulations to our Flaming Penguins!

has awarded two RAHS students their coveted student-of-the-month award.
Seniors Navath Nhan and Gabrielle Rivera will be
recognized as awardees at the Rotary Luncheon on Monday, December 15.

INTERNSHIPS -- Watch this column for
internship opportunities in 2015. Remember that ½ credit hour is awarded
for 180 hours worked and 1.0 credit hours for 360 hours worked. 58%
of internships are paid in addition to credit rendered. Prepare your

OF FLIGHT --
With the addition of the new 787 at the MUSEUM OF FLIGHT Airpark, the Museum
will be increasing opportunities for park guides and hosts. See the

SENIORS -- Under
the stipulations of the HSD #40l RULES FOR GRADUATION –you may utilize
internship hours in substitution for the Senior Project graduation
requirement. Thirty hours (30 hours) of notarized internship may be
utilized for this graduation requirement. Watch for additional
information detailing your particular situation and subsequent actions.

SCHOLARSHIP
OPPORUNITY --
The 2015 ACPE Technology Scholarship. This year the Association for
Computer Professionals in Education (ACPE) has allocated $10,000 for
scholarships of up to $2,500 each for students in Oregon and Washington.
These scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors who have
been actively involved in the use of technology during their high school
careers and are planning to pursue studies in a technology related field.

to complete the online application. Applications are due February 15,

to enter a national program of competition in artistic impression and

If you need one-on-one FAFSA help,
there is help available at various district locations throughout January.
Families are invited to attend any district FAFSA event, but RAHS is officially
partnering with Tyee High School on January 6 from 3:30-7:30 PM and January 11
from noon-4:00 PM both events at Tyee High School.
Maria Rebecchi, Assistant
Director of Financial Aid Services for South Seattle Community College will be
leading a FAFSA how-to presentation at 6
PM on December 15 in the third floor PLC. All grades are
invited!
Ms. Carper will proctor BYU
Health exams in the career center at 3:40 on the last Wednesday of every month. Remember,
you must order the test from BYU at least two weeks in advance.
MIT
Inspire Competition: Students
are invited to enter MIT Inspire, a national research competition. For
more information, visit getinspired.mit.edu. The first submission
deadline is January 7, 2015.
Paying
for College: Wallingford
Financial Services will be giving a presentation on Wednesday, January 28 at
6:30 PM in the 3rd floor PLC. It’s never too early to start
planning for college. All grades are welcome!
Second
semester schedules
are available to view in Illuminate. Please check them. If you
would like to request changes, please fill out the forms in the College/Career
Center. Teacher approval is required for year-long class changes.
Remember to change classes by February 13 to avoid impacting your
transcript.

always, ASB welcomes all to attend our meetings in Mrs. Fitz's room with
questions, comments, or just to see what we're up to every Wednesday at lunch!

Parents, students must not stay
at school after 6 PM
unless they are directly supervised and participating in a school event/club or
extracurricular activity. This is to ensure student safety and adult
supervision while on the school campus.
If you
are unable to pick your child up before 6 PM on a regular school day, please
arrange a carpool (connect with the PTSA) or make other arrangements for
transportation. For liability reasons, your child must be supervised or
find a way home by 6PM. Thank

REMINDER
Many
students are failing to meet the dress code requirements this year, and it's
becoming a larger issue than ever before. Please review the guidelines for
appropriate attire and remind your peers so we can keep our attention on our
education and not have to introduce stricter punishment policies for being out
of dress code.
