Principal’s Message

Whatever your plans may have included this past weekend, I hope you celebrated all the mothers in your life—the mom who is raising you, your grandmothers and aunts, your teachers, coaches, friends and neighbors who nurture and support you when mom isn’t around.  I have certainly found in my own life that many women have assumed the role of mom to encourage and support me.  I’m grateful!  Cheers to mothers everywhere!

I keep hearing more good news from the Career Center and Ms. Burr about the exciting opportunities students will have this summer.  Congratulations to:

Ø  Jacob Wagner, who has been selected for one of our most coveted internships--a full time, paid internship with Aerotec Engineering.  Good job, Jacob!

Ø  Nick Vale, Elijah Harmon and Royce Le now have full time, paid summer internships with Aviation Partners, a company that designs and manufactures winglets for Boeing and other aerospace companies. CONGRATS, gentlemen!

Ø  Richard Encinas, who has been accepted to intern at the Museum of Flight as an ambassador for the Crew Compartment position. Congratulations Richard!

Ø  Alfiya Yesuf who will be sharing the fun of STEM with younger girls by interning with Girls Rock Math this summer.

Ø  William Mueser, who will be a paid intern for Mentor Neil Hawson who is conducting an Algebra Camp for our students this summer!

Ø  Ellen Jetland, Rocco Buty Lesley Martinez, Olivia Shiffer, Moritz Wienke, Jon Provencher, Richard Encinas, who have been selected as this year’s Seafair Airshow interns. Ellen Jetland and Rocco Buty will be the lead interns.  Lucky students- great job and congratulations!

I imagine there will be an air of sweet anticipation this week as many of you prepare for Prom on Friday evening.  Congratulations to the Junior Class for planning what is sure to be another fabulous, memory-making event.  Have fun, everyone, and be safe!

Seniors, are you working on your scholarship essays?  The scholarship packet is available in the Counseling Center or you may access it from the AHS or the PTSA websites.  Please take full advantage of the many scholarships that are being offered this year.  It’s quite amazing how donors have stepped forward to contribute to your future!

AP testing continues this week.  My best to all who are taking exams. You’ve worked hard to get to this point, and I’m proud of you.

May you all have a most inspiring week of learning!  I am honored to be your principal.

                                                                                                                                    ~Reba G.

Class of 2013 Graduation Party at iFly
June 12, 11:30pm to 5:00am

Judging from the forms in by May 1, it looks like we will have a great turn out for the party...but we want more! It is our hope to have as many students from the Class of 2013 participate in this safe, chaperoned, final fling as a class. We still have room for fourteen more students to attend. If you missed the May 1st deadline, you are in luck...but hurry! You will need to catch one of those spots!

If you need a little extra time to pay, no problem! Just turn in the form with a note as soon as possible so we can "count your student in" saying when you will be completing your payment (but no later than June 1). If you need a hand paying, please let us know...we want every student to attend, and will do whatever we can to make it happen.

Can you help to Sponsor A Senior?
Fundraiser for the Class of 2013 Graduation Party
As June approaches, our seniors look toward the end of their high school years at AHS. Capping off a busy day, the Seniors will gather one last time to celebrate four years well done as a class at their Grad Party...the final gathering until they meet again in 2023 for their ten year reunion! Held once again at iFly, this celebration is a safe way for our seniors to cut loose after what is bound to be an emotional day, and has become a welcome tradition at Aviation High School.
But, it sure is an expensive tradition! At a cost of approximately $200 a student, we look for ways to defray the ticket cost for each to attend. We are also paying for several scholarships. We want to make sure every student who wants to attend is able to. Can you help? The Grad Party Committee is asking for donations of any denomination to help "SPONSOR A SENIOR". Whether it be $25 or $250, any amount adds up, and is greatly appreciated. We have several students on scholarship, and are selling tickets for $125 to make it more affordable to attend. So...whatever your student's grade, from freshman to senior, think about making a donation! All checks should be made payable to "AHS PTSA" with "Grad Party" in the memo line. Questions, comments, concerns? Contact Mindy McClean at
mindymacster@hotmail.com or 206.679.8692.
