Principal’s Message
Most
of you know that we have a school nurse on campus only one day a week. You also know, as do we, that illness doesn’t
time itself to fall on the day that Nurse Rhonda is on campus. The challenge for our office staff is that
they are not licensed health providers, and they each also have full-time,
demanding job responsibilities that prevent them from giving full attention to students
who are sick. Starting this week, we will be asking students who report to the
main office when a licensed practitioner is unavailable, to call their parents
to pick them up. We realize that this
may create some inconvenience to students and families, but we ask for your
understanding. Please know that if a
student is violently ill or injured, we will call for professional help
immediately, including making a 911 call.
It’s
March already, spring is just around the corner, and the school year is flying
by! There are no breaks from school this
month, allowing constant instructional time to prepare for AP exams, project
deadlines, and major assignments. Every
day counts in your preparation for college and career! I encourage you to use a
planner and closely monitor your progress to make sure you are on track for
successful completion of the year. Your
next break is April 7-11!
Mine
is a short message this week because there’s much to read in the Announcements
section. Honored to be your principal
and wishing you a successful week of learning—
~Reba G.

Project
PROMise has returned! Ladies—we are collecting gently used
and/or new prom dresses to donate to Highline Schools Foundation. The dresses
will be given to young ladies within our school district who would like to go
to prom but don’t necessarily have the funds to afford it. We would LOVE your
donation of a dress, shoes, purses, and/or jewelry. We are also looking for
donations or gift cards to local salons or for pedicures or manicures for these
well-deserving girls. Please bring your items to Mrs. Fitzpatrick’s room, 3520
any time until March 10, 2014. Last year, we sent 16 dresses, several boxes of
beautiful shoes, some lovely jewelry, and a couple of handbags. Please help us
help others.
Culture Club
Laser
Tag In School- March 6th - Hosted By Culture Club, Fundraiser for Local
Homeless Youth
Immediately
after school on Thursday, March 6th, a laser tag tournament will take
place in the Boeing Presentation Center, until 5:30. An admission price of $15
will guarantee tournament entrance, non-tournament play, and soda. Sign up
your 3-player team on the sign-up poster in the lunch room to be included in
the bracket. All profits will be donated to YouthCare, a Seattle
non-profit that supports and empowers homeless youth. $5 pizza will also be
available from the usual Tuesday vendor. Come play laser tag in your very own
school for a discount price, while supporting a great cause!
National Honor
Society
The
time of year has come around again where we will be donating our useless change
to make an amazing contribution to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! This is
an advisory competition where each advisory has a box. Adding coins to your
advisory's box adds to your money count. If another advisory is doing better
than you, you can add dollar bills to their box to effectively "bomb"
that advisory (all of which, of course, is still donated). The winning advisory
will get a lunch provided by Olive Garden and if we reach our goal of $1,500 as
a school we will be able to choose Señor
Peterson's next facial hair style! The competition starts Wednesday March 5th
to Friday March 21st.
