Welcome back from
what I hope was a fabulous spring break!
If you stayed in the area, you enjoyed a few days of sunshine and a few
days of colder, liquid sunshine. Hopefully,
some of you found sunshine and warmth if your vacation included travel.
While you were away, the first bucket of
dirt was turned on Tuesday morning, April 7 and officially launched The
Aviation Pavilion project. RAHS offers a
front-row seat to the construction area. Please keep in mind this is a
construction zone, and all construction safety measures must be followed. No
one is allowed on the site without prior approval and wearing an ANSI approved
safety vest and hard hat. All access to the 737 and 747 will need to be around
the front of Raisbeck Aviation High School and through the parking lot. Once the project is completed, The Aviation
Pavilion will be four times the size of the T.A. Wilson Great Gallery, and the
expansion makes The MoF one of the largest aviation museums in the world.
During the first
weekend of Spring Break, our amazing Skunkworks
Robotics team continued their legacy of three consecutive first place finishes in regional competition! Their victory occurred in Spokane, and the
team home brought home another first place trophy and Chairman’s Award. They
eagerly look forward to international competition in St. Louis later this
month. Skunks, we are immensely proud of you and will be cheering from the big
screen in the lobby as you vie for another win in St. Louis! Congratulations!
This week, I wish the Class of 2015 my
absolute best. The seniors are
presenting their culminating projects to the staff and community members—it is
one of their few remaining graduation requirements. Many of the projects show an amazing commitment
to excellence and creativity. I look forward to announcing the names of our
Senior Showcase finalists next week.
As we begin the final quarter of the year, let's maintain our
collective energy and resolve to finish well.
The
Principal’s Round of Applause—acknowledging those who make RAHS a
better place.
Karl Nielsen—for
his organizational wizardry and stellar preparation for the RAHS lip dub event
this Wednesday.
Olivia Shiffer
and Stella Sisson—for serving as RAHS ambassadors and co-presenters at
the 2015 Expanding Your Horizons conference, sponsored by the
Association of University Women. Joined by RAHS grad Camilia
Palacio, who is now a freshman at the UW, these amazing young women shared
their passion for STEM education and all they have gained by being a student at
RAHS. Thank you, ladies, for inspiring more young women to pursue similar
pathways in STEM!
Jade Jordan—for
being accepted into the "Girls
Who Code Summer Immersion Program" this
summer. Girls Who Code represents an innovative approach to computer
science education, pairing seven weeks of intensive instruction in robotics,
web design, and mobile development with engaging, career-focused mentorship and
exposure led by the industry's top female entrepreneurs and engineers.
There were only 20 spots available per program, which made the selection
process very tough. Jade will be spending her summer at Expedia Inc.
Leslie Schumann and
Tanya McCormick—for the days of admission’s
database work, and preparing the mailings for the Class of 2019.
Honored to serve as your Principal—Bruce Kelly

NEW

Embry Riddle, Purdue and the
University of North Dakota
are again this year offering summer camps to RAHS students. The camps are in the form of a scholarship
and sophomores and juniors are encouraged to apply. Visit the counseling office starting next
week to pick up an application.
Applications must be turned in no later than May 8th.
To all of our State bound
Olympians -
We
appreciate all of the hard work that you have put into our team over the past
competition season. If it weren't for your ambition we would not be sending our
top two teams to state. Your leadership both during competition and in class
has proven every single one of you deserves the honor of competing at
state.
On
behalf of all of Science Olympiad, we want to wish those bridge-builders,
test-makers, and risk-takers the best of luck at State (April 18).
CITIZEN SCIENCE TRAINING
When:
Thursday, April 16 during Clubs
Where:
PLC
Please,
check in with your advisor first for attendance and then quickly join us for
training. There will be staff from the Seattle Aquarium here to review
the tools and data collection protocols we will be using on the beach!
Please,
see me if you are signed up to attend, but are no longer interested in joining
the program and/or are unable to attend this important training.
TUESDAY $5 DOLLAR PIZZA
Students
do you like the convenience of having $5 pizza delivered to the school on
Tuesday evenings? If you are a
participant – you must consume all pizza in the Commons Lunch Room. If students persist in eating the pizza
elsewhere we will have to cancel the $5 Tuesday Pizza. It is a privilege we all enjoy and you must
consume it in the Commons! Please don’t
ruin this privilege for others who observe the rules. Thank you.
COPY/PRINT
STATIONS – Reminder from the Student Handbook:
RAHS students
begin with a $10 credit applied to their account paid through the technology fee.
The student incurs the cost of each click charge— $.00949 for black and white
copies and $.049 for color documents, and the paper cost, $.01 per sheet. For
example, a $10 credit allows a student to print or copy 75 color documents and
285 black and white copies. There are many combinations of black and white and
color printing to spend down the $10 credit.
Once a student’s
balance falls below $.02, their print/copy account, they are expected to pay an
additional $10
fee. There are no refunds for unused balances. Excess use—more than one additional
$10 charge, disables the student’s print/copy account for the remainder of the
school year. Prudent use of the print/copy station machines is expected. In the
event of a broken or jammed machine, students should notify a staff member
immediately.
